Sweaty Armpits Correction

Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis can be socially embarrassing. There are temporary solutions and more permanent surgical solutions. The most common temporary solution is the use of Botulinum toxin injection. These injections administered in tiny therapeutic doses can treat severe sweating affecting the feet, palms and underarms that cannot be managed by topical agents such as antiperspirants. The treatment is well tolerated. These injections stop the release of a chemical messenger that temporarily blocks nerve transmissions in the skin which stimulate sweating. This is an effective treatment which generally lasts around 9-12 months. Alternatively, plastic surgery can be performed. For the armpit, this can be done under local anesthesia. Here, a special cannula is inserted via a tiny incision in the arm pit. This allows the sweat glands to be destroyed permanently.

Post procedure, a pressure dressing is applied over the wound. There will be slight bruising which would resolve in 1 -2 weeks.
