Nipple and Areola Surgery

The nipple and areola undergoes significant changes post-delivery and breastfeeding. Patients usually complain of darkening of the nipple areola complex. This is associated with nipple lengthening and widening of the areola.

The darkening of the nipple areola complex can be managed using a combination of areola lightening cream, oral lightening tablets as well as laser therapy.

Nipple reshaping surgery including shortening and reduction of the size of the nipple can also be carried out. This is performed under local anesthesia and takes around 1 hour. Absorbable sutures are used and hence there is no necessity for suture removal.

In some cases, the widened areola can also be corrected surgically at the same time.
