“Bikini Lip” Reduction

Excessively bulky lips are not commonly talked about in the media. However, it is a real issue that distresses and embarrasses many women today. In fact, we’ve had patients who would come in the clinic wearing face masks because they were so ashamed of their bulky and pouty lips.

Bikini lip reductions are nothing new. Previous techniques of lip reduction merely entailed debulking the lips by removing the excess mucosa and muscle. However, with this technique, little attention was paid to the final contour of the lips, as well as the volume relationship between the upper and lower lip.

At our clinic, we use a modified bikini lip reduction technique. This technique involves excising a bikini top shape (two cups with a strap) from the upper lip, and a bikini bottom shape (triangular) from the lower lip. Doing this not only reduces labial volume, but it also allows for the reconstruction of an attractive labial contour.

Our bikini lip reduction is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia. A special topical numbing cream is first applied to the lips before the patient is sedated. It usually takes 45 minutes to complete. Absorbable sutures are used, so suture removal is not necessary.

Post-procedure, patients are prescribed anti-bruising medication to relieve discomfort and accelerate healing. Overall downtime for bikini lip reduction is around 2-3 weeks, which allows the bruising and swelling to subside. The final contour will be apparent after 2-3 months.

Dr Leo Kah Woon is experienced in Bikini Lip Reduction techniques and will guide you through the entire process from consultation to recovery. For more information, contact us at +65 6733 3895.
