Hybrid Breast Augmentation

Hybrid breast augmentation is a breast augmentation technique that uses both implants and fat grafting. Suitable for women with all body types, this method has quickly become the procedure of choice for most patients.

This technique is especially ideal for women who want a substantial increase in breast volume but don’t have sufficient fat to achieve desired results by fat transfer alone. It is also recommended for those who have very thin frames whereby using implants alone may make the implants easily palpable or visible. With hybrid breast augmentation, fat is added in the cleavage and around the implants, resulting is softer edges and a more natural look.

Hybrid breast augmentation is likewise performed for reconstructive purposes. It is suitable for women with asymmetrical breasts or those with a congenital chest wall deformity such as pectus excavatum. In such cases, smaller implants are used to restore ideal breast shape, size and asymmetry. Fats are then injected around the implants to achieve a softer texture and more natural feel.

Hybrid breast augmentation is a day surgery done under intravenous sedation. First, standard breast augmentation is carried out either via the inframammary approach or via the endoscopic transaxillary approach. Thereafter, unwanted fat can be harvested from the tummy or the thighs. This fat is then purified before injection into the breasts using microcannula. The entire procedure takes around 3 hours to complete.

Patients will be prescribed a pressure garment post-surgery. This pressure garment has to be worn for around 6 weeks. Patients should expect bruising to last for around 1-2 weeks. Antibiotic, painkillers and special anti-bruising medication will be prescribed to help with the recovery.

No suture removal is necessary as only absorbable sutures are used. Patients can expect to see the final results after 2-3 months after all the swelling has subsided.
