Buccal Fat Pad Removal

Buccal fat pad removal plastic surgery offers quick and gratifying results for patients with fatty deposits over the middle third of the face. It is indicated for patients with "chipmunk" cheeks. These patients suffer from chubby face despite diet control and weight loss measures.

Under experienced hands, this is a straight forward surgery performed under local anesthesia. This involves 2 cm cuts inside the mouth. Thereafter, the buccal fat is separated from the surrounding structures including the facial nerves and vessels. The excess fat is removed and the wound is then closed using absorbable sutures. The whole procedure takes around 45 minutes.

Post-operatively, there is mild bruising around the cheek area which lasts for around 1 week. Patients are also kept on a medicated mouth-wash and advised to eat soft diet for about 2 weeks post-surgery to optimise the intra-oral wound healing.
