Posterior Vaginoplasty and Perineoplasty (Vaginal Tightening)

Vaginal tightening is commonly requested by patients post-delivery. Common reasons include altered sexual satisfaction due to reduced friction during sexual intercourse. Cosmetically, patients also do not like the appearance of the gaping of the vaginal vestibule with visibility of the vaginal mucosa. As a result of the mucosa exposure, there may also be an increase in vaginal secretions.

Posterior vaginoplasty and perineoplasty is a surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedure. This is a Day Surgery procedure performed under local anesthesia or with intravenous sedation by the anesthetist. The muscles over the vaginal canal (bulbospongiosus and transverse perineal muscles) are tightened and excess vaginal mucosa excised. Procedure time is around 1 hour and may sometimes be combined with other rejuvenation procedures including labiaplasty or clitoral hood reduction. Results are permanent in nature.

No stitch removal is required as absorbable stitches are used. Patients are advised to avoid exercise for 2-3 weeks and to avoid sexual contact for around 1 month till the wounds completely heal.
