Forehead Reduction

Forehead reduction is a cosmetic surgery that has been increasing in popularity. The aim of the surgery is to reduce the distance between one’s hairline and the eyebrows.

Also known as hairline lowering or scalp advancement surgery, this moves the hair bearing scalp downwards creating a nice anterior hairline. Hence, this surgery is also an alternative to hair transplant for patients with receding anterior hairline with immediate results seen post-procedure.

In terms of facial aesthetics, the face is divided into thirds. In an ideal face, the distance between the hairline to the eyebrow and the eyebrow to the nasal tip is equal. Some patients have an unusually long forehead making one look older and disproportionate. By reducing the forehead, it always makes one’s face look smaller and younger resulting in a more attractive face.

Forehead reduction is usually performed under sedation by the anesthetist in the clinic. Procedure takes around 1 hour 45 minutes to complete. Usually at least 2 cm of the forehead can be reduced safely. Patients can wash their hair with water in the first 2 days post-procedure and can use shampoo from the third day onwards.

Stitches are removed after two weeks. The final scar is usually well hidden within the hairline junction so it is barely visible.
